THE ROOTS DEFENDER BAND nasce nel 2009 a Napoli con l'incisione del riddim 'Jah the Lion/Praise The King' prodotto da Lumumba Records ed impreziosito dal featuring del cantante veterano Earl Zero. L'ottimo riscontro in ambito europeo del vinile singolo, presto esaurito, incoraggia la band ad affiancare al lavoro in studio anche una attività live. Roots Rockers nello stile originale, ruvido ed irresistibile, sostenuto da una ritmica d'eccezione costruita da Satta (drums), Joint (bass) e Raffaman (guitar), impreziosito dalle sonorità elettroniche di Nobke (keys & fxs) e dal live dubbing 100% analogico di Pone (Almamegretta).
Al microfono la calda voce di PACO TEN (Lecce) artista versatile, cantante, musicista e produttore; il suo energico stile singjay in inglese e patwa è noto ed apprezzato in tutta la Penisola ed oltre, grazie alle numerose release su vinile per la propria etichetta Lumumba Rec. ed alla intensa attività live che lo ha portato ad esibirsi come mc nelle reaggae yard di tutta Italia oltre che in Uk, Portogallo, Croazia e Germania.
Il live spazia attraverso sonorità eterogenee, fondendo suggestioni provenienti dalla Jamaica degli anni '70 e '80, dalla scena inglese dei sound system e dalla Francia contemporanea, in un repertorio che alterna pochi riddims classici, riarrangiati e reinterpretati, a brani cantati e strumentali assolutamente inediti, che costituiscono il fulcro di un concerto esplosivo e coinvolgente in puro stile Roots Defender. Nel 2011 la band in formazione estesa fa da backing per Earl Sixteen in un memorabile concerto ad Officina 99 (napoli) oltre ad esibirsi in formazione base in numerosi concerti nel centro/sud italia e recentemente allo storico Hootananny club di Brixton (Londra 2012).
Arising from Naples (South Italy) the original sounds of THE ROOTS DEFENDER BAND with singjay PACO TEN ; Deep Roots Reggae Music with a strong Dub flavour inspired by the sounds of JA late 70's and early UK roots and outernational sound system music; many original unreleased tunes and a very few classic riddims played in a true rockers style.
The Roots Defender Band was born in 2010 around the Satta Studio, recording exclusive music for Italian sound system Bababoom Hi Fi.
The first riddim, produced by the bredrin's label Lumumba Records as "PRAISE THE KING 12'' EP", featuring vocals from the rootsman legend Earl Zero, received a strong appreciation all over Europe and further, giving birth to the idea of playing live as a riddim band, specialized in roots and dub music.
In 2011 the band linked up even stronger with the long time bredrin PACO TEN, whose powerfull singjay style became the leading vocals for the Roots Defender live show.
Many works are currently going on with various artists and producers....stay tuned for the Roots Defender Music label to come in 2012 !!!!
